$1 Billion in Tax Payer Savings – every year
The U.S. government can lead by example to save over $1 billion each year, just by changing the lights across the 3.4 billion square feet of federal real estate. Buildings across America consume 40% of U.S. energy, and lighting typically accounts for over 25% of building electricity. Light Emitting Diode (LED) technology saves 50% or more on electricity over traditional lights. Maintenance and air condition cost reductions are added benefits to LEDs. Utility rebates help reduce the cost of LED retrofits, but the rebates are projected to come down in many markets in 2018. Message from Council Leadership:
“Our focus on job creation through U.S. manufacturing includes numerous articles, Op-Eds, Made in America panel participation, and LED Boot Camps. Our Qualification Guidance Report has evolved over the years and dates back to the Specification Report to the U.S. Navy for Military Sealift Command (MSC) in 2014, the Report to Congress in 2012 at the request of the U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC), and early foundational content from work on the Green Economy Task Force as early as 2009. For the “Buy American and Hire American Executive Order,” we are pleased to share insights from multiple years of manufacturing and job creation that will help advance American Energy Independence,” said Charlie Szoradi, Leadership Council Chairman of the American LED Alliance.
