New U.S. Defense Spending May Brighten Military Bases with American Made LED Lighting

On Monday, August 13, 2018, President Trump signed the “John S. McCain National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2019” which includes an expected $10 billion per year in military construction spending and a focus on energy and climate security. This is very positive for American manufacturers of energy-efficient technology, such as LED lighting.

The latest funding helps activate President Trump’s “Buy American and Hire American” Executive Order, signed April 18, 2017, which directs military and civilian agencies to buy American made products, including lighting. The challenge to date was that the agencies did not necessarily have the funding to act on the executive order and upgrade their lighting to energy-saving LED technology. Now, the new National Defense funding gives the Military the means to purchase LED lighting that is made in America per the executive order and the Buy American Act (BAA) compliance. See:
